TO: All News Media Outlets

I was out of the office Tuesday and Wednesday at a training and returned last night to find several requests from media regarding the execution of a search warrant on Wednesday August 14th at the Vallecito home of Mark Redwine, father of Dylan Redwine who went missing last November and whose remains were found on Middle Mountain in the Vallecito area during a series of searches the week of June 23rd.

I spoke with Investigators this morning and below are the only statements I am authorized to make. I understand some of you have received additional information from sources outside of La Plata County Sheriff's Office and news stories have already been released. However, once again, below are the only statements I have been authorized to make:

  • La Plata County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), served a search warrant at Mark Redwine's home on August 14th, 2013.
  • The search was part of an on-going investigation.
  • La Plata County Sheriff's Office has no comment and will have no comment regarding what was taken during the execution of the search warrant nor regarding the nature of yesterday's search.
  • As we have stated in the past, we have not labeled anyone as a suspect in this case.
  • Due to the active nature of this criminal investigation we have no further comments.

Thank you,

Dan Bender, PIO

Today, Law Enforcement (LE) officers executed a search warrant at Mark Redwine’s home. Mark has long been somewhat concerned that LE missed things during the first search and states that while he dislikes the mess LE left, he is glad for the follow up search. He sincerely hopes that LE is continuing the search for the rest of Dylan’s remains and that they soon figure out what exactly happened to his son.

The K-9 Forensic group brought a team last week to Middle Mountain to search. It appears nothing more was found. Praying for answers for all concerned. LaPlata Search and Rescue also had a man and dog out last weekend.

No official statement on the K-9 forensics team that did a search over the weekend in Vallecito.

I was informed that unofficially that no more of Dylan’s remains have been located thus far.

The search team has begun to arrive on Middle Mountain and will search there through the weekend. All team members are trained and each dog is certified. May this effort and efforts at the lake this weekend be successful and find Dylan and provide everyone answers about what happened to him. Bring Dylan Home! This is not a public search, I repeat, this is NOT a public search. I hope everyone understands that all teams are not asking for assistance from the public and that everyone please just lets them do their work.

Dylan's fishing pole was located and is now in the possession of Law Enforcement.

Others have questioned if LE knows that Mark is bringing a team to search for more remains and the answer is yes, of course they do. I would have expected that not even to be a question. Mark has always cooperated and LE has said so.

Mark Redwine has made plans to bring a team to search for more of his son's remains. Finding the rest of Dylan is his first priority followed by finding the truth of what happened to him. If the need for justice arises, Mark will support that too. First, find Dylan. All of him. A team will come soon with (so far) 3 certified bloodhounds, 3 certified cadaver canines, 7 personnel who can rappel, personnel who are land/animal trackers. The team is certified in crime scene preservation. The team will be armed and identifiable. Bring Dylan home.

Mark with law enforcement’s blessing went up to the southern-most part of the area where Dylan’s remains were found. He left his vehicle there and made the trek from there to his house. He did this for his own peace of mind. What he wanted to know was if Dylan could have went up there, so he traced it back to get a feel of the terrain. His conclusion is that it is possible that Dylan went up there, but he can’t see why he would. Mark said he had cell phone reception the entire time. One of his thoughts had been that Dylan was out and kept climbing to get reception, so maybe now he can lay that to rest. He wants very much to know where the rest of his son is and what happened to him. The video below was originally in 4 separate clips that were merged together for Youtube.com that he wished to share with the public to view.

Today the lead investigator told Mark that the search continues for Dylan and/or his things. Nothing else has been found and the search is continuing up Middle Mountain to the east.

Picture is a view of Middle Mountain from Mark's home. He looks out there and thinks of his son's remains still out there and he wants all of Dylan found and the truth to be known.
